Dynamically Generated Color Picker v.3.2
I'm working on dynamically generating data. The original plan was to show
every legal 24-bit color value for HTML but 16,777,216
cells is a little compute- and network-intensive. It amounts to shoving as
near a gigabyte as doesn't matter down the intertubes. By selecting a single
value for either red, green or blue we cut down the number of cells to 65,536,
with 1/256th the number of cells to calculate, the table can still take up
to half a minute to download, so be patient. And all that been said, don't
irritate my hosting company by running this repeatedly. And if you run it on
your iPhone or 'Droid or whatever, you're going to run over your data limits
before you can say “What happened?”
Starting with ver. 3 the tables are generated using dynamically named variables.
If you don't count this explanation text and supporting code like meta
tags, the three seed tables are generated with 21 lines of formatted code
and the big table is generated with 28 lines of formatted code. If I were to
blow out some of the fancy formatting and the error trapping the
number of lines would halve, easily. The 1,024 color option spits out over
2,000 lines of HTML; the large option: over 66,000 lines. This is highly leveraged
I want to see the source code!
Currently set to display 1,024 color squares. Do
you want to see 1,024
colors or 65,536 colors?
STEP 1: select a seed value by clicking on a hex number from one of the three tables below:
