Tryptic consists of three pieces of Performance Art which can be performed in the context of daily life.
One may also consider Tryptic to be a recipe for conducting a normal life. If this is the case, one should be careful to perform all three steps of all three performances in order, so as not to become confused. Each step should be completed before continuing on to the next step.
Step 1:
Manufacture a set of standards.
Step 2:
See the world through that set of standards.
Step 3:
Forget Step 1.
Step 1:
Reach tentative agreements.
Step 2:
Let these agreements govern your actions.
Step 3:
Abandon all agreements.
Step 1:
Manufacture a set of standards.
Step 2:
Conduct your life through that set of standards.
Step 3:
Disassociate your self from your life.
postscript:
In the first and third tryptic, the word “Manufacture” could be replaced with “Adopt” for those who lack the time, energy, or inclination to come up with standards on their own. This was amended in an attempt to pull these instructions into the 21st century.
